Tamahagane razor in progress

This is another one that is almost finished. Now I am basically left wondering what scales to use. Decisions… decisions.

The picture was taking immediately after oiling. I had etched it, rinsed it, set the rubies, and only then oiled it. I set the rubies first, because if I’d oiled it first and got any oil in the holes for the rubies, gluing would have failed.

Tamahagane is folded many times, and etching clearly reveals the layers of the folding pattern. You can think of it as damascus, if it was made with all layers being the same steel.
